Welcome

Iain McMillan

The current view is that many employers, mostly of SMEs and micro businesses, perceive investment in work related learning to be a drain on their business. The aim of this project is to demonstrate that the opposite is in fact the case and that without proper learning opportunities their workers could feel undervalued and become disenchanted.

If Scotland is to increase its productivity and competitiveness we must do everything possible to alter this perception.

The main outcome of this project is to create an interactive multi-media product, including a workplace training Evaluation Tool, aimed at raising employer awareness, for the first time, of what constitutes cost-effective and fit-for-purpose workplace learning for organisations, regardless of size, sector or location.

Armed with this information it is hoped that employers will realize that investment in work related learning opportunities is not a drain on their business but an essential part of its future prosperity. The provision of work related learning should also be seen as benefiting the employer/employee relationship, adding value to the wider business community and of improving the competitiveness of Scotland Plc.

We are grateful to the Scottish Executive, the European Social Fund Objective 3 partnership and our contributing partners for their foresight and trust in providing the necessary resources to enable this project to take place.
